Lucy
has been active in the addictions field for over 25 years and has owned Avenues
to Recovery Inc since 2004. She is a
nationally certified addictions professional. She has the following credentials
in substance abuse counseling: AAPS
certification from the State of Kansas and CADC III She is also certified for
counseling in accordance with Kansas SB 123 and SB 67. Lucy is also certified by the Association of
Intervention Specialists as a Board Registered Interventionist II. This means she is part of a select few with
this qualification in this part of the country.
Lucy is qualified to help families deal with the trauma of a family
member with alcoholism or drug addictions by helping set up a loving and
compassionate intervention for the suffering family member. It is Lucy’s belief that an intervention is a planned interaction
between an individual and a group whose sole purpose is to modify the
individual’s dependence on a harmful substance or practice.
Lucy is a native of Duluth, MN and has lived
in Olathe since 1993. Upon graduating from high school she attended Concordia
College in Moorhead, MN where she obtained a Bachelors Degree. Prior to Olathe, she lived and worked
in the Twin Cities and the Chicago area. She and her husband are proud parents
of three children; Patrick who is an Architect in Chicago, Emily just received
a Masters Degree in Public Policy from the University of Minnesota and Jeanne
who is studying journalism at the University of Kansas.
David
Brown
David
grew up in the UK and came to the States in 1974. He is AAPS certified in the
State of Kansas as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor. He is also a member of AIS and
is an active and skilled Interventionist. He is passionate about working with
the addict and alcoholic and to giving back what was so freely given to him. He
has also attended a great deal of training regarding interventions and recently
came back from Family Meeting Approach Intervention Training given by the
Illinois Institute for Addiction Recovery. He has also participated in the
Professionals In Residence Program at the Betty Ford Center and he has done the same kind of
training at Hazelden. David is
very involved in the day to day running of the business and marketing but at
the same time is passionate about counseling and carries his own case load. He
was trained in engineering and worked all over the world doing international
sales in the power generation business. David has been involved in addiction
and recovery for 28 years.
Sara
Jackson
Sara has
been involved in addiction and recovery for four years. She received her AAPS
certification from the State of Kansas in 2009. She is certified for counseling
in accordance with Kansas SB 123, an alternative sentencing policy program for
non-violent drug possession offenders. Her
responsibility at Avenues calls upon her to work closely with Community
Corrections in Wyandotte County, Kansas and provide assessment and treatment in
their offices.
She is currently studying
for a Masters Degree in Social Work at the University of Missouri – Kansas
City. In addition, Sara received a Bachelor of Journalism from the
University of Missouri – Columbia in 1987.
Sara has three teenage daughters and enjoys scuba diving and
skiing.
