| Alcohol and Drug Assessment, Education and Treatment Avenues Philosophy: Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency are diseases. The excessive use of alcohol and/or drugs reduces the overall quality of human existence and endangers physical health and life expectancy. Therefore it is essential to intervene actively and aggressively against the physical, psychological, social, vocational and spiritual crises exhibited by a chemically dependent client. Unity, trust, hope, understanding and caring are characteristics which must be present to ensure a high level of quality care for the client and progress towards the desired goals and a meaningful recovery. Avenues to Recovery Inc. Is a full service drug and alcohol assessment, education and counseling center. Founded by Lucy Brown whose picture is on the right, the focus is on offering confidential, professional assistance to clients in a holistic, caring, safe, friendly and accepting environment. Lucy has many years of experience in the substance abuse field in Johnson County and has been actively working in Olathe in the field of addictions since 1993. She opened Avenues to Recovery Inc. in 2003 as she saw the need for a new agency which offered the kind of holistic and sensitive programs that it does. Lucy has the following credentials in substance abuse counseling: AAPS and CADC III and is certified for counseling in accordance with Kansas SB 123. This gives Lucy state and national accreditation as a certified addictions professional. Lucy is also AIS certified which means that she has met the requirements of the Association of Intervention Specialists She is qualified to help families deal with the trauma of a family member with alcoholism or drug addictions by helping set up a loving and compassionate intervention for the suffering family member. Lucy is a native of Duluth, MN and has lived in Olathe since 1993.Upon graduating from high school she attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN where she obtained a Bachelors Degree. Prior to Olathe, she lived and worked in the Twin Cities and the Chicago area. She and her husband are proud parents of three children; Patrick 22 who this May will graduate from the Illinois Institute of Technology with a degree in Architecture, Emily who attends the University of Minnesota where she studies Political Science and Jeanne who is currently a Junior at Olathe South. Treatment Philosophy: The treatment philosophy at Avenues to Recovery is strengths based with a firm belief in positive motivation. Lucy states that " my years of experience have confirmed to me the limitless possibilities recovery can offer those people who are willing to work for it. My job as counselor is to mentor, guide, support and educate my clients in their journey to recovery". |
